In 1947–48, Vidya Bhushan was commissioned by Nawab Zain Yar Jung Bahadur, Executive Engineer and Architect of the Nizam’s Royal Palaces Division, to paint murals at the Hyderabad House in Delhi. Here Bhushan is seen against the backdrop of the completed murals in the Moghul and Ajanta styles, probably painted using the fresco technique.

Hyderabad House was formerly known as the Nizam’s Palace and was built by Edwin Lutyens for Mir Osman Ali Khan, the last Nizam of Hyderabad, during 1921-1931. With the exception of the Viceroy’s Residence, now the Rashtrapati Bhavan, it was the largest of the royal palaces and was built in the shape of a butterfly in a blend of European architectural features with Moghul motifs. Hyderabad House is currently the Prime Minister’s State Guest House.
